WHY SIT HERE UNTIL WE DIE?
II Kings:
3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?
The
four lepers from our scripture found themselves in an extremely dire
situation. Indeed, they were suffering from a disease so greatly feared
and little understood in their time that they are isolated outside the
city gates. Not only had they been exiled and isolated outside the
bounds of society of the day, but their country was under attack by
enemies. So there they sat right in the middle of two seemingly
horrible and impossible choices. To go back into the city would
certainly result in their death and to advance into the enemy’s camp did
not seem to offer much better chances for survival. But there finally
came a moment in time when these lepers saw that if they didn’t do
something to make a change in their circumstances they would surely die
right where they sat. So they decided to advance into the enemy’s camp.
Not only did the lepers’ decision end up saving them, but it also was
used of the Lord to greatly bless and save those who had exiled and
isolated the lepers! What a turn-around!
Many of you find
yourselves in a similar place today. You are in such stagnate situations
that the very life is slowly and painfully being sucked out of you.
You are caught in this place, and because you have been as you are and
where you are for so long you have given up hope. The barrenness and
hardness of your circumstances have put you in a place of famine.
Because the world sees you as a hopeless or maybe even worthless cause,
you have come to accept this perception of you as the way it is with no
hope of things ever changing. But the Lord is sending His word to you
today to encourage and strengthen you to move forward with Him. It is
time for you to rise up in courage and faith in the Lord. He is bigger
than your circumstances and will help you out. Just like the lepers you
have to determine to move forward even if it means advancing into the
enemy’s camp. But as the lepers said, “Why sit here until we die?”
Choose to trust the Lord and live!
Deuteronomy 30:
19 I
call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set
before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life,
that both thou and thy seed may live:
